Arby's / Taco Bell part 2b

Arby's: Arby-Q - 2 for $4
Taco Bell: Mini spicy chicken quesadilla

-Spicy Arby-Q-
This week I went for two combinations. The second, while made the same way, addressed the taste of the meat. Whatever sauce Taco Bell uses on these little beauties went really well with Arby's barbeque sauce. The tortilla was the same consistency as the bun, but it didn't hinder the taste (at least enough to notice). What I learned from this combination was to always snag some taco bell hot sauce if I'm going to Arby's.

Verdict: Thumbs up. A real improvement taste wise, but it's still just meat on a  bun.

Josh's Opinion: Good GOD! It was really good, the real winner of the days exploits. The BBQ sauce with the spicy chicken was what I loved the most. Sweet and Spicy, a good combination.

Arby's / Taco Bell part 2a

Arby's: Arby-Q - 2 for $4
Taco Bell: Tostada - $1

-Arby-Q Deluxe-

If you are not a fan of a butt-ton of meat on a bun then you probably don't like Arby's.  My first combining was too address the lack of options for a sandwich. The Arby-Q on special right now (2 for $4, what a deal!), so I used that as my base. To make this combination, I first removed the meat from the bun and put it on the tostada. Then I folded the tostada in half and put it between the buns. The cheese, lettuce, and tomato was a good mix for the barbeque meat, but the refried beans were a bit too over powering. As well, The crunchiness of the corn tortilla added texture variety. All in all, a tasty combination in the right proportions. I'd say try this one out for yourself.
Verdict: Thumbs up. It raised the appeal of the sandwich overall. Less beans, and this would have been a tasty treat.

Josh's Opinion: No Go. The tostada and Arby-Q were okay. I didn't really like the tostada, it didn't seem like it had a lot going on for it.

Arby's / Taco Bell part 1

Hello, and welcome to another rendition of Super Manly Combining Food. Today we went with at restaurant challenge. The restaurants chosen today were Taco Bell and Arby's. This unusual combination was suggested by a friend, and we went with it. This is our story, and we are here to tell it.

Beefy, Cheesy, Potatoey, Roast Beefy, Burrito: By Josh.

Beef and Potato Burrito: $2.39
Beef and Cheddar: $3.00

The food item I have made today, is a combination of The Beef and Cheddar from Arby's, and the Beef and Potato Burrito from Taco Bell. I started by opening the burrito and applying a liberal amount of roast beef. I also added some curly fries, and a small amount of the onion bun that the beef and cheddar comes on. After that I applied some cheese from the sandwich and some Hot sauce from Taco Bell. The results are as follows.

It was pretty damn good. The two items by themselves are pretty good, but the combination was like combining two good food items. The roast beef and the curly fries added a saltiness that I always thought was lacking. The superior beef was also good, and the superior cheese from Arby's was a nice touch. It had a more cheddar taste, that mixed well with the nacho cheese.

Verdict: Good, but I wouldn't recommend it combining these two items. It's good and filling, but kind of pricey. I would really recommend just going for the Beef and cheddar or the value menu at Taco Bell.

Kevin's Opinion: You can get good meat at Taco Bell, but not for the price. Taking bare bone burritos and adding your own brand of deliciousness is always a safe bet.

Dessert Mix Up Part 2

McDonalds: 2 Apple Pies - $1.19
Taco Bell: Cinnamon Twists - $1.09
-Apple Pie with a Twist-
Step 1, bite off the end of an apple pie. Step 2, put a cinnamon twist in. Step 3, be disappointed. I was hoping this would turn my pie into a more cinnamon-y apple pie, but it didn't work out. The twists were too big for the pie making it hard to put them in. Also, the twists overpowered the taste of the apple and made the whole thing blander. Definitely a step down from the original and a sad outcome :( . Maybe putting the dippin' dots in the pie and the cinnamon twists in the cake would have been less of a dessert disaster.

Josh's Opinion: I don't have much to say, it just tasted like a crunchier version of the apple pie. Not really recommended.

Dessert Mix Up Part 1

Another week, another food combination. Today was a pretty easy combination, but that just made it more difficult. We decided to do desserts today. I had a hard time deciding what to do, but I eventually found my niche.

Bippin` Downie: By Josh
Brownie Sandwich from Taco Bell: $1.19
Chocolate Mint Dippin` Dots: $3.35

I'll be short today, the brownie sandwich just had frosting in the middle, so I took the brownie apart and put some of those dots in there. The ice cream of the future is such a weird dessert. Mainly just the texture and the way it stuck to everything but the brownie. Overall, it's as you would expect, a brownie with ice cream inside. Pretty good, but the sub par quality of the brownie really hurt the quality.

Verdict: Not so good. Not only is this combination not great, but it's really expensive. If you want to do something like this just get some cheap ice cream, and some Little Debbie brownies. Save some money at least.
Some Assembly required

-Kevin-
I only had one bite of this thing and there wasn't many dots in it.
Verdict: Thumbs down. For a combining at least. The taco bell brownie wasn't too tasty and it was hard putting too many dots in the brownie

Side Salad Spruce Up Part 2

Chik-fil-A: Side Salad - $2.79
Taco Bell: Crunchy Taco - $1.09

-Taco Salad-

Before I begin I have to say the side salad at Chik-fil-A is fantastic. They fill the container full of greens and give you a packet of burned tomato crispy red bell peppers. Kudos to you Chik-fil-A for making a good product.

This is a simple dish, but for only $1.09 it changed a side item into a full meal. To make this I dumped out the contents of the taco into the salad and then broke up the crispy shell as small as possible before adding it. It was super tasty and a great way to eat "healthy" fast food. I wouldn't change a thing. The orange things in the picture are the red bell peppers.

Verdict: Big thumbs up. I could see myself getting this whenever I had a craving for fast food. I believe the taco will be good in any fast food side salad.

Josh's Opinion: It was alright. It mainly tasted like a taco but with a lot of extra lettuce. I would have recommended some dressing to compliment the beef and tortilla. I don't know which kind of dressing though. Maybe a ranch or blue cheese?

Side Salad Spruce Up: Part 1

Breakfast Salad: By Josh

Chik-Fil-A Side Salad: $2.79
Sonic Steak & Egg Burrito: $3.30

Hey there, after a long break we're back with some more combining of the Super Manly variety. Today we decided to spruce up some side salads with various outcomes. We both went to Chik-Fil-A for our side salads and had two different venues for our add-on, so here we go.

I decided to get a breakfast burrito from Sonic. The Steak & Egg burrito was always a tasty treat, so I decided to add it onto a salad. The combination was fairly good. I've never had scrambled eggs in my salad before, but it was still just as a good as a boiled egg. The steak was nicely marinated in whatever juices Sonic uses, and the cheese and tortilla also added a nice touch to the already tasty salad. I used a combination of the packet of salsa that came with the burrito and the Spicy Salad dressing from Chik-Fil-A. As it was described to me, the dressing is a lot like a chipotle ranch, but spicier. It was a good compliment to the salad. The only thing I would have changed was the softness of the tortilla. I wish I could have baked it a bit to add a bit more crunch.

Verdict: Very good. I would recommend this combination if your a fan of steak, eggs, and lettuce. Maybe the lime avocado ranch would have been good with it as well, but we'll never know now.

-Kevin-
Verdict: Thumbs down. The soft shell was soggy and didn't compliment the crunchyness of the lettuce. As well, the cheese was primarily in the eggs and didn't spread out to well. Finally, the breakfast burrito is pricey for breaking it up and adding it into a salad.
